My New Favorite Corner!

Hi guys! I just wanted to share with you something really fun that I finally was able to check off my list, and it fits within my January ’17’s theme of wrapping up various projects around the house, as well as the tenet from the KonMari method about surrounding yourself only with things you love <3 <3 <3  Organization and Simplicity in 2017, baby!

“We’re all a little mad around here.”

I love, love, LOVE all things Alice in Wonderland. The 1951 Disney animated classic is my favorite Disney movie, and I absolutely love both of the live action Alice movies from Disney. Yes, even the one that got terrible reviews- I don’t understand how!!! haha! I just love the characters, and I thought the storyline was fascinating and fun! Maybe I was the only one, I guess?? I don’t know what it is about Alice in Wonderland, what it is about the movies and characters, I just think they’re fun and weird and I like tea. So, yeah.

I have been collecting Alice in Wonderland stuff over the years. I have all kinds of fun things, and when I stop and think about it, the majority of it were gifts from my awesome MIL. She totally feeds into my obsession with Alice, she even bid on a table setting at a charity event once that had an Alice in Wonderland theme, won it, and then gifted me the tea set! When she first told me she won it, I was of course very happy for her, but in my mind I was also jealous! Drrr, how foolish.

Anyway, so I’ve had all this Alice stuff, and it’s been somewhat on display, but in more of a storage cabinet with glass doors, as opposed to in a true showcase piece. Long story short, the opportunity arose for me to obtain an older corner display cabinet, and it is perfection if I do say so myself! The cabinet is a little rough around the edges, it could use a solid refurbishing, but it’s well enough, and it has lots of character. What I love about this cabinet (apart from it being free!) is that it is just the right size for the space. A corner cabinet is a pretty cool piece to begin with, and this one is not too massive for the space.

The raw space! aka you can see all my cleaning supplies and it’s not a picture perfect shot :-/

Can you stand it?? Ahhh I love this little corner!

Anyway, this silly little corner makes me smile every time I pass by. Before, it was just a boring old corner! One of the main points in The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up that made me stop in my tracks was this concept of surrounding yourself with only things that bring you joy. So, this means that you are both not living amongst stuff that you don’t love, but on top of it, the stuff you love and the style you love is prominent in your home. Seeing this cabinet just-I don’t know- it pleases me to see it! It relaxes me, even. If you are feeling unrest in your life, take a look around your home- are you surrounded by things that make you happy? Do you have truly beloved belongings, hiding in a dark closet somewhere? Is there a way that you could have them out in the open, for you to interact with on a regular basis? I feel as though I was raised to think that important stuff should be stored in a safe place; now, that just seems asinine to me! Life is for the living!

In other words, let your freak flag fly! Ahahahaha!

Do you have your special “things” out and about, or stored away somewhere? What ARE those special things to you? Do you have any unusual things, like my Alice in Wonderland collection, that you have collected that just please your heart??
